GENERAL FAQ
Forex trading is the buying and selling of currencies with the goal of making a profit. For example if you believe the US dollar will rise against the euro, you buy that currency pair and sell it when the price moves in your favour. It is the largest financial market in the world and runs 24 hours a day, five days a week.
You can technically start with as little as $10 to $50 depending on your broker. However, we always recommend starting on a demo account first practice with virtual money until you are consistently profitable before risking real funds.
A currency pair is simply two currencies traded against each other. For example EUR/USD means you are trading the Euro against the US Dollar. The first currency is what you are buying and the second is what you are selling. Majors like EUR/USD, GBP/USD and USD/JPY are the most popular pairs for beginners.
A pip is the smallest unit used to measure price movement in forex. For most currency pairs, one pip equals a move of 0.0001. It is how traders measure how much a price has moved and calculate profit or loss.
The spread is the small difference between the buying price and the selling price of a currency pair. It is essentially the cost of placing a trade and is how most brokers make their money. The tighter the spread, the less it costs you to trade.
Leverage allows you to control a larger position in the market with a smaller amount of your own money. For example, with 1:100 leverage, you can control $10,000 with just $100. While leverage can increase your profits, it can also increase your losses so it must be used carefully and with proper risk management.
The most active trading times are when major market sessions overlap. The London and New York session overlap between 1pm and 4pm UTC tends to offer the highest trading volume and the best opportunities. The best time for you also depends on which currency pairs you trade.
Price action trading means reading the market using only the raw price movement on a chart — no indicators, no complicated tools. Traders who use price action study how price moves, where it has been before and what patterns it forms to predict where it is likely to go next. It is the foundation of everything taught at TradeWithOTC.
There is no fixed timeline but most traders who are serious and disciplined start seeing consistency between six months to two years. The key is not to rush the process focus on learning properly, practice on a demo account and build your skill before going live.
Yes, like any financial market there is real risk involved. You can lose money, especially without proper education and risk management. That is exactly why learning the right way from the beginning matters so much. The traders who blow accounts are usually the ones who skipped the learning process.
Absolutely. Most traders start part time while keeping their main income. With the right strategy and timeframe structure, you can analyse the market and place trades without needing to sit in front of a screen all day.
The most common platforms are MetaTrader 4 (MT4), MetaTrader 5 (MT5) and TradingView. At TradeWithOTC we use TradingView for analysis and our Smart Signal System indicator is also built on TradingView.
